JABALPUR: The much-wanted relief and rehabilitation work has been started in tribal-dominated Balaghat. The state machinery and social organisations are already at work to help the victims of the Jamunia irrigation dam collapse here.
As many as 590 houses were washed away, while over 300 were damaged. Crop over 3,000 acres of land was destroyed in the incident.

Livestock was also lost in the floods.
Earlier, the state government had released Rs 57 lakh for the affected people. Later, chief minister Digvijay Singh also announced Rs 37 lakh for the victims from the state’s calamity relief fund. However, the sum is yet to be disbursed.
It is further expected that the district will receive Rs 75 lakh from the centre under the Indira Awas Yojana. District Collector Dr Rajesh Rajora said the district administration had distributed a compensation sum of Rs 10,000 to each family which lost its house.
